| What outings would you
like to see that are not currently being offered? Other comments or
suggestions about the outings.
Overall,
the outings are good, However, the greater the variety, the better.
A
trip up to Chattanooga to go hang-gliding.
Good
choices and variety of in-town and out-of-town hikes.
Spring
wildflower hikes, waterfall hikes.
Kayaking,
canoeing, but primarily hiking.
Day
trips to a special place but maybe just for lunch.
Cohuttas
more often.
Overnights
in north Georgia mountains including a stay at a lodge.
More
hikes to Standing Indian and other more strenuous hikes.
More
local events.
Longer
and/or more strenuous hikes. Higher, rockier, more scenic hikes. More
hike/camping options.
More
kid hikes.
Sporting
events - Braves, Thrasher games.
It
would be nice if leaders displayed an "SOA" sign at the
gathering sites.
Longer
(10 to 15 miles) and in new/more remote places.
More
camping (car and backpacking) trips would be good, if there’s interest.
Trips
to events in and around Atlanta. More international travel trips. Spa
trips, long weekend trips in U.S.
Trips
to historic/cultural places.
I
wanted to use this club as a means of meeting people to date. Let’s have
a speed dating night
Horseback
riding.
Let’s
do some bike rides.
Bowling.
Some
more trips to North Carolina, also a well-organized caving trip.
More
backpacking trips.
More
canoeing.
Perhaps
a few more in northwest Georgia/east Alabama (Cheaha Mountain, Little
River).
Camping
- (for beginners).
Birding,
maybe?
More
outings to historical places.
Need
more variety - more bicycle, more walks (as opposed to hikes), more canoe.
More
rugged hikes w/ car camping and cookout following the Saturday day hike.
Have "hot tea party" during the hikes for a nice respite.
More
social events, maybe?
Picnics,
theater events, restaurant sampling, pot luck get-togethers, wine tasting's.
Canoe
school/kayak school - learning the basics.
More
in-town hikes. Not so far to travel, only takes half a day.
Increase
boating options and expand regions for hiking.
Car
camping weekends, more canoeing in spring and fall.
Increase
kayaking for beginners.
A
series of Appalachian Trail or Benton McKaye hikes or backpacks (example -
hike the Georgia A.T. in 5-6 consecutive weekends.
All
outdoor events, no indoor events.
Bike
trips? Rafting trips.
More
of everything (easy, moderate and combination moderate/strenuous.)
I
think our diversity is generous perhaps too much so, as disc golf and
dancing are very loosely related to our hiking outdoor adventure roots.
Rafting, biking, canoeing, backpacking.
Comments/suggestions
about trip leaders.
Need
to make everyone feel welcome and included.
Have
not gone on anyone else’s trips in the last two years, but I had some
very good trip leaders, who unfortunately have dropped out (gotten
married).
In
my four years as a member, I have had only one leader who didn’t return
my calls.
Trip
leader should not run trips for profit. Although price "seems"
fair, value is compromised to produce the profit.
I’m
not really qualified to respond, since thus far, I’m not extensively
involved. My responses are based on one hike and 3 phone conversations,
all of which were fabulous.
Need
to have a sweep person that remains in the rear on trips on winding
trails.
None
- they always seem to do a good job and show interest in leading hikes.
Some
group leaders run off with the "fast" hikers and seem to forget
about those of us who like to go at an easy pace and see what’s around
us! It’s not a race.
The
trip leaders are great. You can tell they make an effort to give you the
info you need and know the trail.
More
leader training in, say, leading and attitude. Some, not all, seem
to run off and leave the group behind.
Some
are great, some not so great. It’s "carpool" kind of details
and maps (or lack of) that have caused some problems once or twice in my
experience.
Need
specific driving instructions – highway numbers, significant markers,
numbers of miles from one point to another.
I
would like to get to know the people better on a trip. I suggest that the
leader hand out at the beginning of the trip a list of who is on the trip
with phone numbers, along with directions to start point and dinner.
All
have been great.
Have
always had good leaders.
Most
are above average – there’s always one or two who are a poor or a
below average.
Comments/suggestions
about the parties.
Softball
@ Summer Party.
Food
excellent at Winter Party.
Need
areas for people that prefer to chat away from loud music.
Have
more "pot-luck" covered dish gatherings. Have a board game party
- good mixer.
I
think two more a year might be a good idea - they could be casual and
people bring food.
Comments/suggestions
about the activity calendar (if you indicated that more information was
desired, what kind of information would you like to see? what changes
would you like to see with the rating system, if any?)
An
idea of where the trails are (south of Atlanta, for instance).
Very
happy with the information given, just a bit more info on location would
be helpful.
Very
happy with the information given, just a bit more info on location would
be helpful.
A
little more about the hike areas to "peak" our interests - no
pun intended!
The
name of the town at the trailhead.
Maybe
a bit more about trip length/terrain.
I
like it when I can communicate by email.
It
would be nice to know what area hike is in - this is not always apparent
if hikers don’t know trail names and area is not listed (e.g., close to
Helen, etc.)
Comments/Suggestions
about anything relating to SOA.
I
am happy with the number and variety of activities.
I
don’t know how to address this issue - but I think that many people just
are no-shows. That’s not fair to people who are wanting to go and may be
on a waiting list. I don’t understand why people can’t pick up a phone
and call.
I
like the club a lot. I would like the leader to have everyone introduce
themselves when the hike starts.
Glad
I joined -
I
think SOA is a terrific group!
Email
group members - reminder of events/monthly meetings.
Great
job all around -
A
greater variety of events would be awesome!! More parties! (at least one
every two months)
Suggest
more volunteer service hikes/projects - would like Sunday afternoon hikes,
after church.
Be
willing to expand activities, more cultural and historical events for
instance. Events connected to going to more diverse, sometimes more
upscale restaurants, etc. and activities.
The
more variety - indoor and outdoor activities the better.
Is
there specific match up group of people? A list where people can hook up
with others on their own: like the veggie, the diehard, the adventure
travelers, the Appalachian hikers or the Sierra enthusiasts, the
canoeists, the skydivers, etc. Having the database where the members can
call up one another and introduce themselves without having to meet on a
hike or function.
Some things have been addressed in the past year. If you are interested
in meeting people with similar interests, post a message on the bulletin
board. Example - "Vegetarians Unite! Those interested in meeting at
an area restaurant, Call Veggie Vic.", or any other special interest
you may have.
It
would be nice to have "themed" hikes - birding, identifying
trees, wildflowers, tracks. Something educational to "break the
ice".
I
am basically happy with SOA. I wish I could be more active in the
organization. Probably I could start by co-leading an event so it’s not
your fault, it’s mine.
Can’t
wait to make some hikes!
Great
group - good leadership. No big gripes - enjoy the outings for the most
part.
Great
organization and good group of people!
We
have had members in the club that were professionals who could contribute
tremendous information about the history, botany, geology or geography of
the hike area. When designated as an informational hike, these events
could be of interest to some of the membership.
I
enjoyed all the hikes I went on and plan to go on more. However, I’m 58
years old and most of the members I’ve met are in their 30’s and 40’s.
I’d love to find a serious hiking group of people in their 50’s and 60’s.
Mark Hoover and Dick Adams did outstanding jobs on their hikes (and canoe
trips with Mark were my favorite).
My
feeling - keep it an "outdoor" club rather than trying to make
it a social endeavor. That is SOA’s strong point.
I
am looking forward to going on several of the outings. I enjoy the
outdoors and others with similar interests, I have heard you have a very
nice organization and the outings are lots of fun.
